Cardboard Shipping Containers

In the early part of the 20th Century, Antle started using cardboard packing hear lettuce rather than the bulky, heavy wooden crates. This had many advantages

  • Labor was reduced. Growers no longer had to hire people to make wooden crates.
  • Shipping weights were reduced.
  • Costs were reduced. Growers were able to eliminate material costs associated with wooden crates and shipping costs.
  • More produce could be shipped in the same space
  • Field pack?
  • Vacuum cooling
